The Sun Hydraulics PPFDOAN (PPFDOAN) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing-relieving valve designed to maintain a consistent reduced pressure at port 1, while offering full-flow relief from port 1 to tank port 3. Featuring a .020 inch (0.51 mm) diameter bleed orifice, this valve is biased into reducing mode under dead-headed conditions, ensuring quick responsiveness to sudden flow demands. The pressure at port 3 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum allowable pressure of 3000 psi (210 bar). Inlet pressure limits vary by adjustment range: Ranges D, E, N, and Q accommodate up to 2000 psi (140 bar) differential; Ranges A, B, and H allow up to 3000 psi (210 bar); and Ranges C and W withstand up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Known for stability and low hysteresis, this valve exhibits flat pressure-flow characteristics. It is important to note that reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2 may close the main spool; thus, adding a separate check valve might be necessary for circuits requiring reverse free flow. The PPFDOAN model employs Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into T-2A cavity Series 2 with a capacity of up to 20 gpm (80 L/min), operates at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), and features an adjustment screw with internal hex size of 5/32 inch. The model weighs .60 lb (.30 kg) and uses the Viton seal kit for optimal performance.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).
- This valve incorporates a .020 (0,51 mm) in. diameter bleed orifice between the reduced pressure and tank. This biases the valve into a reducing mode in a dead headed condition which helps the valve respond to a sudden call for flow.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
