The Sun Hydraulics PRDCKWN (PRDCKWN) is a direct-acting pressure reducing valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 by regulating a higher primary pressure from the inlet port 2. This model features a damped construction for stable operation, allowing it to handle high reduced pressures effectively. The valve's design includes an open transition from reducing to relieving, ensuring excellent pressure control and dynamic response with minimal oil consumption of approximately 0.1 gpm (0.4 L/min). It is particularly suited for systems using phosphate ester fluids when configured with EPDM seals, as exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage the seals. The valve is capable of full reverse flow from port 1 to port 2; however, this may cause the main spool to close, so incorporating a separate check valve is advisable if reverse free flow is required. All spring ranges are verified for correct operation at an inlet pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The direct-acting design offers reliable performance in contaminated systems and superior dynamic response compared to pilot-operated models. Pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar). Leakage rates are specified with a supply pressure of 2000 psi (140 bar) and are proportional to the pressure differential and inversely proportional to viscosity. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The PRDCKWN fits into Cavity T-11A with Series 1 capacity, handling up to 10 gpm (40 L/min). Factory settings are established under blocked control conditions, with maximum operating pressures reaching up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve features specific adjustment parameters for increased setting precision and includes detailed installation specifications such as hex sizes and torque requirements.

Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure. This valve is open in the transition from reducing to relieving. It provides good pressure control and dynamic response.

  • The transition from reducing to relieving is slightly open. The result is very good pressure control with oil consumption of about 0.1 gpm (0,4 L/min.). The relatively high pilot control flow is only a factor in a dead-headed condition.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • All spring ranges are tested for correct operation with 5000 psi (350 bar) inlet pressure.

When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
