The Sun Hydraulics PRDCLEE (Material Number: PRDCLEE) is a direct-acting pressure reducing valve designed to maintain a consistent reduced pressure at port 1 from a higher primary pressure at inlet port 2. This valve features damped construction for stable operation, which allows for the use of high reduced pressures. It is particularly effective in providing precise pressure control and dynamic response due to its slightly open transition from reducing to relieving mode, with an oil consumption rate of approximately 0.1 gpm (0.4 L/min). The valve is suitable for systems with phosphate ester fluids when configured with EPDM seals, although exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The PRDCLEE model ensures reliable operation even in contaminated systems and deadheaded conditions, thanks to its direct-acting design. It offers superior dynamic response compared to pilot-operated models and maintains full reverse flow capability from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2, though a separate check valve may be needed if reverse free flow is required in the circuit. The valve operates effectively under maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and provides optimal performance across various spring ranges tested at this inlet pressure. For installation, the valve requires specific torque settings: the valve hex size is 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), installation torque ranges between 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm), and locknut torque is specified at 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). Additionally, it incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. This model weighs approximately 0.30 lb (0.15 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option for enhanced performance under varying conditions.

Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure. This valve is open in the transition from reducing to relieving. It provides good pressure control and dynamic response.
- The transition from reducing to relieving is slightly open. The result is very good pressure control with oil consumption of about 0.1 gpm (0,4 L/min.). The relatively high pilot control flow is only a factor in a dead-headed condition.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- All spring ranges are tested for correct operation with 5000 psi (350 bar) inlet pressure.
- Direct acting concept provides highly reliable operation in contaminated systems, especially at dead headed conditions.
- Direct operated version offers superior dynamic response compared to equivalent pilot operated models.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
- Leakage specified in Technical Data is out of port 3 with a supply pressure of 2000 psi (140 bar) and the valve set at mid range. This leakage is directly proportional to pressure differential and inversely proportional to viscosity expressed in centistokes.
- All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
