The Sun Hydraulics PRFRCAE (PRFRCAE) is a direct-acting pressure reducing valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 by reducing high primary pressure from the inlet port 2. This valve features a damped construction for stable operation and can handle high reduced pressures, making it suitable for accumulator circuits due to its reduced secondary circuit leakage. It is important to note that this valve lacks relieving capability and should not be used in deadheaded applications, as pressure may rise significantly with very low leakage on the reduced pressure side. The PRFRCAE is an excellent replacement for an LPC valve when a normally open, restrictive compensating element with higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended; exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals. In scenarios requiring reverse flow from port 1 to port 2, adding a separate check valve is advisable as full reverse flow may cause the main spool to close. This model operates optimally under maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and features Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The PRFRCAE offers superior dynamic response compared to equivalent pilot-operated models and allows direct additive pressure at port 3 up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its leakage specifications are directly proportional to pressure differential and inversely proportional to viscosity in centistokes. The valve's design includes various adjustment options, such as clockwise turns for setting increase and hex sizes for adjustment screw and locknut torque specifications.

Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure.

  • Note: This valve has no relieving capability. It should not be used in a dead-headed application. If the reduced pressure side of the circuit has very low leakage the pressure may rise significantly. The pressure rise will vary from valve to valve.
  • This type of valve, PR*R, is a good replacement for an LP*C as a normally open, restrictive compensating element if a higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • All spring ranges are tested for correct operation with 5000 psi (350 bar) inlet pressure.
