The Sun Hydraulics PRHRLBN (Material Number: PRHRLBN) is a direct-acting, pressure-reducing valve designed to reduce high primary pressure at the inlet port 2 to a consistent reduced pressure at port 1. This model features a damped construction for stable operation, allowing for the use of high reduced pressure. Notably, this valve lacks relieving capability and should not be used in deadheaded applications, as the pressure on the reduced side may rise significantly if there is very low leakage. The PRHRLBN serves as an effective replacement for an LPC when a higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed as it functions as a normally open, restrictive compensating element. It is suitable for accumulator circuits due to its absence of pilot control flow, which results in reduced secondary circuit leakage. The valve's direct-operated design offers superior dynamic response compared to equivalent pilot-operated models. The PRHRLBN allows full reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2; however, this may cause the main spool to close. For circuits requiring reverse free flow, it is advisable to add a separate check valve. The valve operates reliably with all spring ranges tested at an inlet pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Pressure at port 3 can be directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio but should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar). It incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The model has a capacity of 40 gpm (160 L/min) and features specific installation and adjustment parameters including a hex size of 1\u00bc inches and an installation torque range of 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm).

Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure.

  • Note: This valve has no relieving capability. It should not be used in a dead-headed application. If the reduced pressure side of the circuit has very low leakage the pressure may rise significantly. The pressure rise will vary from valve to valve.
  • This type of valve, PR*R, is a good replacement for an LP*C as a normally open, restrictive compensating element if a higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
