The Sun Hydraulics RBAAFDN (RBAAFDN) is a direct-acting pilot relief cartridge designed to remotely control the pressure setting of other pilot-operated valves. This valve is specifically suited for load holding applications and should be used in conjunction with higher flow valves due to its limited capacity to pilot flow. The main stage orifice of this cartridge is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in demanding environments. Notably, back pressure on the tank port (port 2) adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, allowing precise control over pressure adjustments. This model can be configured with EPDM seals for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids, but it should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they can damage the seals. Corrosion-resistant options are available, identified by suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components, respectively. The floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The RBAAFDN operates within a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and features a response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. It has a maximum valve leakage rate of 5 drops per minute at 110 SUS (24 cSt). The adjustment mechanism allows up to five clockwise turns to increase the setting, and it includes specific torque specifications for installation and locknut adjustments. With a compact design weighing only 0.50 lb (0.25 kg), this cartridge valve is efficient and robust for various hydraulic applications where rapid response and precise pressure control are essential.

Direct-acting, pilot relief cartridges are used to remotely control the pressure setting of other pilot-operated valves. Because capacity is limited to pilot flow, these valves should be used with other higher flow valves.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
