The Sun Hydraulics RBAELEN (RBAELEN) is a two-port, pilot-stage, direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed for pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable, normally closed valve activates when the inlet pressure at port 1 surpasses the preset spring force, creating a flow path to port 2. It utilizes the Sun T8A two-port cavity, making it an optimal choice for integration with Sun's main stage pilot or vent-to-operate cartridges. This design eliminates the need for separate pilot lines and requires only one cavity for both control and primary functions. The RBAELEN features hardened poppet and seat components that ensure consistent operation, low leakage rates, and superior wear characteristics. It can handle pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) at both ports 1 and 2. The backpressure at port 2 directly adds to the pressure setting at port 1. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are available; however, they should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as this can damage the seals. The valve incorporates Sun's floating-style construction to minimize binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 2.5 gpm (10 L/min), it offers a typical response time of 2 ms and maximum leakage of 15 drops/min (1 cc/min) at standard viscosity levels. Installation requires specific torque values: the valve hex size is 7/8 in (22.2 mm), with an installation torque between 20-25 lbf-ft (27-33 Nm). The adjustment screw has an internal hex size of 5/32 in (4 mm), while the locknut requires a hex size of 9/16 in (15 mm) and torque between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm).
