The Sun Hydraulics RBFACCN (RBFACCN) is a bidirectional, direct-acting relief cartridge designed as a normally closed, pressure-limiting valve that protects hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve opens when the pressure differential between ports 1 and 2 exceeds the set limit, throttling flow to control the pressure rise in either direction. The internal modulation of this valve minimizes issues like noise and manifold erosion associated with cavitation. The adjust screw seals are exposed to pressure at port 1, requiring adjustment when pressure is removed or through port 2. It is important to select a spring range where the relief setting is midrange to high for optimal repeatability. This valve can handle varying oil temperatures and contamination effectively. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable in terms of flow path and cavity size for given frame sizes, thanks to Sun's floating style construction, which reduces internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The RBFACCN has a capacity of 30 gpm (120 L/min) and operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It features a typical response time of 2 ms and maximum leakage at reseat of 30 drops/minute, with reseat set at 85% of the setting. The valve allows for adjustment with five clockwise turns to increase the setting and has a hex size of 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm). Installation torque ranges between 45 - 50 lbf ft (61 - 68 Nm). A Viton seal kit (990303006) is available for this cartridge.

The bi-directional, direct-acting relief cartridge is a normally closed, pressure-limiting valve used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure differential between ports 1 and 2 exceeds the valve setting, the valve starts to open, throttling flow to limit the pressure rise, regardless of the direction. Both directions have very similar setting and performance.

  • Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
  • The seals on the adjust screw are exposed to pressure at port 1 which means this valve can only be adjusted when the pressure is removed or port 2 is used to set the valve. The setting procedure at port 1 is; check the setting, remove the pressure, adjust the valve, check the new setting.
  • Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
  • Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
