The Sun Hydraulics RDBACEN (RDBACEN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by limiting pressure rise. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve setting, throttling flow smoothly and quietly. It is characterized by its dirt tolerance, zero leakage, and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. The valve is built for maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). It is functionally interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges except for pilot reliefs, featuring the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The RDBACEN model is suitable for cross-port relief circuits as it can accept maximum pressure at port 2. It includes features such as a floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The seals on the adjust screw are exposed to system pressure, requiring adjustments only when pressure is removed. The valve's insensitivity to varying oil temperatures and contamination makes it reliable in diverse conditions. The product is ideal for load-holding applications where back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, EPDM seal configurations are available; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals. Additionally, selecting a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between midrange and high ensures optimal repeatability of the valve settings. This model comes with an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm) and requires an installation torque between 20-25 lbf ft (27-33 Nm).

Direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- The seals on the adjust screw are exposed to system pressure which means this valve can only be adjusted when the pressure is removed. The setting procedure is; check the setting, remove the pressure, adjust the valve, check the new setting.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
