The Sun Hydraulics RDBACWN (RDBACWN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic systems from pressure transients by limiting pressure rises when the inlet port reaches the valve setting. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to the tank port to throttle flow and maintain system integrity. Known for its smooth and quiet operation, the RDBACWN is nearly leak-free, dirt tolerant, and immune to silting, making it highly reliable in various conditions. It features a design that allows all 2-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, to be physically and functionally interchangeable within a given frame size. This model can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits. The valve's adjustment screw seals are exposed to system pressure; therefore, adjustments should only be made when the pressure is removed. It is recommended to select a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between midrange and high for optimal repeatability. The RDBACWN can also be used in load-holding applications due to its capability of handling back pressure on the tank port directly additive at a 1:1 ratio to the valve setting. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, EPDM seal configurations are available but should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances as they may cause damage. Constructed with Sun's floating style design, this valve minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity machining variations. The RDBACWN has a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It features a response time of approximately 2 ms and ensures maximum valve leakage at reseat of only 10 drops per minute. The adjustment requires up to five clockwise turns for increasing settings, with specific torque values provided for installation and locknut adjustments.

Direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
  • The seals on the adjust screw are exposed to system pressure which means this valve can only be adjusted when the pressure is removed. The setting procedure is; check the setting, remove the pressure, adjust the valve, check the new setting.
  • Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
  • Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
  • Suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
