The Sun Hydraulics RDBAFEV (RDBAFEV) is a direct-acting relief cartridge designed to safeguard hydraulic components from pressure surges. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the preset level, thereby throttling flow to manage pressure increases. Notably smooth and quiet in operation, the valve is engineered for minimal leakage and high dirt tolerance, making it resistant to silting and ensuring rapid response times. All two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, share physical and functional interchangeability within a given frame size, providing versatility in application. The RDBAFEV model can accommodate maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The adjustment screw seals are exposed to system pressure; thus, adjustments can only be made once the system is depressurized. For optimal repeatability of valve settings, it is recommended to select a spring range where desired settings fall mid-range or higher between minimum and maximum pressures. This cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It features a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) with factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). The maximum operating pressure is 5000 psi (350 bar), with typical response times of 2 ms. The valve exhibits maximum leakage of 10 drops/min at reseat conditions and maintains reseat capability at 85% of its setting. The RDBAFEV model includes EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids while being vulnerable to petroleum-based fluids. Installation specifications include a hex size of 3/4 in., installation torque between 20-25 lbf ft (27-33 Nm), an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in., and locknut torque requirements of 80-90 lbf in.
