The Sun Hydraulics RDBALEV (Material Number: RDBALEV) is a direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by limiting pressure rise through throttling flow to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the valve setting. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve is known for its smooth and quiet operation, with essentially zero leakage, making it dirt tolerant and immune to silting. It features a rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds and can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve is especially suitable for load holding applications and cross port relief circuits as it accepts maximum pressure at port 2. It is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and contamination, ensuring stable performance across different conditions. The RDBALEV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve's adjustment procedure requires the removal of system pressure before making any changes, with back pressure on the tank port directly adding to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. It has a factory-set capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) with maximum leakage at reseat being just 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min), ensuring efficient operation. Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are specifically designed for systems using phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals.
