The Sun Hydraulics RDBALSE (RDBALSE) is a direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to the tank port when inlet pressure reaches the valve setting, effectively throttling flow to limit pressure rise. Known for its smooth and quiet operation, this valve features zero leakage and high dirt tolerance, making it immune to silting and very fast in response. It is physically and functionally interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path. The RDBALSE can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The adjustment of the valve requires system pressure removal due to exposure of the adjust screw seals to system pressure. It is recommended to select a spring range where the desired relief setting is mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressures for optimal repeatability. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding risk due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Key specifications include a cavity T-162A series 0 capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), typical response time of 2 ms, and maximum valve leakage at reseat of 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min) with an 85% reseat setting.
