The Sun Hydraulics RDDA3CN (RDDA3CN) is a non-adjustable direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by limiting pressure rise. It remains normally closed and opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the valve setting, providing smooth, quiet operation with essentially zero leakage. The RDDA3CN is dirt-tolerant, immune to silting, and offers fast response times. This valve is factory set and tamper-proof, requiring customers to specify their desired settings. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The valve's performance remains relatively unaffected by varying oil temperatures or contamination. The RDDA3CN features Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits in a T-10A cavity with a series 1 capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Typical response time is around 2 milliseconds with maximum valve leakage at reseat being 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min). The valve reseats at 90% of its setting. Its hex size measures 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), with an installation torque range of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), and it weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg). The seal kit for this cartridge uses Viton material, identified by part number 990310006.

Non-adjustable direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.
- Customer must specfy setting. The valve will be factory set and is tamper proof.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
