The Sun Hydraulics RDDAKBN (RDDAKBN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve begins to open to the tank port when the inlet port pressure reaches the designated setting, effectively throttling flow to control pressure rise. Known for being smooth, quiet, and essentially zero-leak, this valve is dirt tolerant and immune to silting. It features a rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds and has maximum operating pressure capabilities of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The RDDAKBN is interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, sharing identical flow paths and cavity dimensions. This valve is suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications due to its ability to accept maximum pressure at port 2. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The RDDAKBN's performance is relatively unaffected by varying oil temperatures or contamination levels, ensuring reliable operation across different conditions. When selecting this valve, it's recommended that users choose a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between midrange and high pressures for optimal repeatability. The adjustment process requires removing system pressure before altering settings via an internal hex screw. This model accommodates a maximum capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and exhibits minimal leakage at reseat with a rate of 10 drops/minute (0.7 cc/min). Additionally, configurations with EPDM seals are available for use in systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it can damage these seals.
