The Sun Hydraulics RDFA3AV (Material Number: RDFA3AV) is a nonadjustable direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by maintaining a normally closed position until the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting. At this point, it opens to the tank port, throttling flow to limit pressure rise. Engineered for smooth and quiet operation, these valves are virtually leak-free, dirt-tolerant, and resistant to silting. The RDFA3AV is factory-set and tamper-proof, requiring customers to specify their desired settings. It features EPDM seals suitable for phosphate ester fluid systems but cautions against exposure to petroleum-based substances which can cause seal damage. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min), this valve is ideal for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It can handle back pressure on the tank port at a 1:1 ratio with the valve setting and offers maximum repeatability when set mid-range within its spring capacity. Installation requires a hex size of 1 1/8 in. (28.6 mm) with an installation torque between 45\u201350 lbf ft (61\u201368 Nm). The RDFA3AV weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg) and includes a Viton seal kit option under part number 990303006 for maintenance purposes.

Non-adjustable direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.

  • Customer must specfy setting. The valve will be factory set and is tamper proof.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
  • Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
  • Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
  • Suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
