The Sun Hydraulics RDFA3CN (RDFA3CN) is a nonadjustable direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve remains normally closed, opening only when the inlet port's pressure reaches the preset level, thereby throttling flow to manage pressure increases effectively. Known for its smooth and quiet operation, this valve is dirt tolerant, immune to silting, and features an exceptionally fast response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. It offers near-zero leakage and is relatively insensitive to variations in oil temperature and contamination. The RDFA3CN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing the risk of internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity machining variations. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). The valve is tamper-proof with factory-set pressure settings that customers must specify during purchase. It's suitable for use in load-holding applications and cross-port relief circuits due to its ability to accept maximum pressure at port 2. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended as exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The valve's design ensures that backpressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. To ensure optimal performance and repeatability, it is advisable to select a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between midrange and high within the minimum and maximum limits. The RDFA3CN model weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg), with an installation torque requirement between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm).

Non-adjustable direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.
- Customer must specfy setting. The valve will be factory set and is tamper proof.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
