The Sun Hydraulics RDJACEN (Material Number: RDJACEN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set point, throttling flow to limit pressure rise. Known for its smooth operation and minimal leakage, this valve is dirt tolerant and immune to silting, offering fast response times. It features a 2-port configuration that is physically and functionally interchangeable with other relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path. The valve can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). The design includes Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The RDJACEN model is suitable for use in cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. It is relatively insensitive to oil temperature variations and contamination, ensuring reliable performance across various conditions. The back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, which should be considered during installation. Seals on the adjust screw are exposed to system pressure, necessitating adjustment only when pressure is removed. To ensure maximum repeatability, select a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between mid-range and high of its minimum and maximum pressures. This model comes with an EPDM seal option for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. Installation requires specific torque settings for optimal performance: 350 - 375 lbf ft (474 - 508 Nm) for the valve installation torque and 80 - 90 lbf in (9 - 10 Nm) for the locknut torque.

Direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.
