The Sun Hydraulics RDJAQDN (RDJAQDN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic systems from pressure transients by utilizing a pressure-limiting mechanism. This normally closed valve opens when the inlet port pressure reaches the set threshold, allowing flow to the tank port and thus controlling pressure increase. Notably smooth and quiet, this valve is engineered for zero leakage and high dirt tolerance, making it immune to silting and ensuring rapid response times. It is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, offering flexibility in cross-port relief circuits. This model can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). The RDJAQDN is relatively insensitive to oil temperature variations and contamination, enhancing its reliability in diverse conditions. It incorporates Sun's floating-style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The valve features an adjustment screw that requires system pressure removal for setting changes, with a reseat capability at 90% of the setting. It also supports load-holding applications and can accommodate back pressures on the tank port directly proportional to the valve setting. The RDJAQDN is compatible with EPDM seals for phosphate ester fluid systems but should avoid petroleum-based fluids. For optimal performance, users are advised to select a spring range where desired settings fall within midrange to high between minimum and maximum pressures. Installation requires specific torque settings: 350-375 lbf ft (474-508 Nm) for the valve itself and 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm) for the locknut. With its robust design and advanced capabilities, this cartridge is ideal for applications requiring precise pressure control under challenging conditions.

Direct-acting relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves are smooth and quiet, essentially zero leak, dirt tolerant, immune to silting and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
  • The seals on the adjust screw are exposed to system pressure which means this valve can only be adjusted when the pressure is removed. The setting procedure is; check the setting, remove the pressure, adjust the valve, check the new setting.
  • Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
  • Select a spring range where the desired relief setting is approximately mid-range to high between the minimum and maximum pressure to ensure maximum valve repeatability.
  • Suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
