The Sun Hydraulics RPCCCAN (Material Number: RPCCCAN) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This valve is engineered to be normally closed and begins to open when the inlet port pressure reaches the pre-set threshold, allowing flow to the tank port to maintain stable pressure levels. Known for its accuracy and low-pressure rise versus flow, this valve operates smoothly and quietly with moderate speed. It is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of similar frame size, offering versatility in various applications. The RPCCCAN can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). Its response time is typically around 10 milliseconds, making it suitable for applications requiring quick adjustments. However, it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The valve's design allows it to accept maximum pressure at port 2, which makes it suitable for cross-port relief circuits while considering spool leakage. This cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing the risk of internal part binding caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations. The main stage orifice is protected against contamination, enhancing the valve's reliability in demanding environments. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are available; however, exposure to petroleum-based substances should be avoided as they can damage these seals. Additional features include a minimum setting of 75 psi (5 bar) across all spring ranges and an adjustment capability through a number of clockwise turns to increase settings up to 5.5 turns. The RPCCCAN also includes specifications such as valve hex size of 3/4 inch (19.1 mm), installation torque between 20 – 25 lbf ft (27 – 33 Nm), and locknut torque between 80 – 90 lbf in (9 – 10 Nm).

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Minimum setting is 75 psi (5 bar) for all spring ranges.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- The main stage orifice is protected against contamination.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
