The Sun Hydraulics RPCCCBV (RPCCCBV) is a pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This valve remains normally closed, and when the inlet port pressure reaches the set threshold, it opens to the tank port, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. Known for its accuracy and minimal pressure rise against flow, this valve operates smoothly and quietly with moderately fast response times. It is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size in terms of physical dimensions and functionality. The RPCCCBV can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). It features a minimum setting of 75 psi (5 bar) across all spring ranges, but it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The valve design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding from installation torque or machining variations. This model is equipped with EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based substances can cause seal damage. Additional specifications include a typical response time of 10 ms, maximum valve leakage at 2 in\u00b3/min (30 cc/min) at 1000 psi (70 bar), and an adjustment mechanism that requires five clockwise turns to increase settings. The valve's hex size measures 3/4 inch (19.1 mm), while installation torque ranges between 20-25 lbf ft (27-33 Nm). The adjustment screw has an internal hex size of 5/32 inch (4 mm), and the locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). This cartridge weighs approximately .20 lb (.10 kg) and includes a Viton seal kit option for enhanced durability.

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Minimum setting is 75 psi (5 bar) for all spring ranges.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- The main stage orifice is protected against contamination.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
