The Sun Hydraulics RPCCCCN (RPCCCCN) is a pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridge designed as a normally closed pressure regulating valve. It becomes operational when the inlet port pressure reaches the specified valve setting, gradually opening to the tank port and throttling flow to maintain pressure regulation. Known for its accuracy and low-pressure rise versus flow characteristics, this valve operates smoothly and quietly with moderate speed. It is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, except pilot reliefs, sharing identical flow paths and cavity dimensions. The valve can handle maximum pressure at port 2, suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should consider spool leakage in such applications. The minimum setting for all spring ranges is 75 psi (5 bar), but it is not ideal for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The main stage orifice is safeguarded against contamination, ensuring durability and reliable performance. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended; exposure to petroleum-based substances could damage these seals. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this model has a typical response time of 10 ms and minimal valve leakage at standard viscosity conditions. Adjustments can be made by turning clockwise up to five times to increase settings. The RPCCCCN's compact design features specific installation torque requirements and seal kit options for maintenance flexibility.

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Minimum setting is 75 psi (5 bar) for all spring ranges.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- The main stage orifice is protected against contamination.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
