The Sun Hydraulics RPCCLNN (RPCCLNN) is a pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridge designed for pressure regulation applications. This valve is normally closed and begins to open when the inlet port pressure reaches the preset valve setting, effectively throttling flow to maintain regulated pressure levels. The RPCCLNN model is known for its accuracy, low pressure rise relative to flow, smooth operation, and moderate speed. It features a two-port configuration, ensuring physical and functional interchangeability with other relief cartridges of the same frame size. This model can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). The valve accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. It is not recommended for load-holding scenarios due to potential spool leakage. The backpressure on the tank port adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. To protect against contamination, the main stage orifice is safeguarded within the design. The RPCCLNN incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations between cavity and cartridge. EPDM seals are used in this model for compatibility with phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based substances will damage these seals. Additional specifications include an adjustment range with five clockwise turns needed to increase settings and an internal hex size of 5/32 inches for adjustment screws. The locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). The cartridge weighs approximately 0.20 lb (0.10 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option under part number 990162006.
