The Sun Hydraulics RPECJVN (RPECJVN) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set level, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. It features a low pressure rise versus flow and operates smoothly and quietly with moderate speed. The RPECJVN is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, allowing for versatile application in systems requiring cross port relief circuits, though spool leakage should be considered in such configurations. The valve's main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are recommended as exposure to petroleum-based substances can damage these seals. The RPECJVN incorporates corrosion-resistant options identified by suffixes AP or LH in its model code for use in corrosive environments. Its floating style construction minimizes binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this cartridge is both robust and efficient. It offers adjustable settings through W or Y control options unless specified otherwise for special settings. Installation specifics include a valve hex size of 7/8 inch (22.2 mm) and an installation torque requirement between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). The adjustment screw features an internal hex size of 5/32 inch (4 mm), while the locknut has a hex size of 9/16 inch (15 mm) with a torque specification of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing only .30 lb (.15 kg), this cartridge is lightweight yet highly capable within its operational parameters.

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
