The Sun Hydraulics RPEEKEV (RPEEKEV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches the set point, directing flow to the tank port to limit further pressure increase. It features low pressure rise versus flow and exceptional speed, making it ideal for applications requiring quick response times. The valve can accept maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, though spool leakage should be considered in such configurations. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability under high-pressure conditions. Notably, this cartridge is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on the tank port directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable in terms of flow path and cavity size within a given frame size. The RPEEKEV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve provides reliable performance in demanding environments. It has a typical response time of 2 ms and minimal leakage at specified conditions. The adjustable setting can be fine-tuned using W or Y controls with up to five clockwise turns for increased settings. Installation requires specific torque values for both the valve and locknut components, ensuring secure placement within hydraulic systems.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
