The Sun Hydraulics RPEETHN (RPEETHN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve quickly opens and closes to manage pressure spikes but may sacrifice some smoothness in operation. When the inlet port 1 reaches the preset pressure, the valve opens to tank port 2, throttling flow to limit further pressure increase. The valve is characterized by its low-pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min). The RPEETHN model is suitable for cross port relief circuits but not for load holding applications due to spool leakage considerations. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and accepts maximum pressure at port 2. Backpressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This relief cartridge is interchangeable with other two-port cartridges within the same frame size in terms of flow path and cavity. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Adjustable throughout its full range using W or Y controls, it can also be specified with a special setting representing the maximum setting of the valve. Installation requires specific torque values: 30\u201335 lbf ft (41\u201347 Nm) for the valve body and 80\u201390 lbf in (9\u201310 Nm) for the locknut.
