The Sun Hydraulics RPESCAN (Material Number: RPESCAN) is a pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge designed for pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve opens to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the preset level, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. Known for its accuracy, smooth operation, and low noise, this valve is particularly effective in applications where cavitation could be an issue, as it minimizes associated noise and manifold erosion. The RPESCAN can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. It remains relatively unaffected by changes in oil temperature and contamination. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The valve features adjustable W and Y controls that allow full-range adjustment unless a specific setting is specified as the maximum. With Sun's floating style construction, the design reduces the risk of internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. This Series 1 valve fits into a T-10A cavity and has a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min). It operates up to a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 7 ms and minimal leakage at specified conditions. Installation requires specific torque values for both the valve hex size (7/8 in.) and locknut hex size (9/16 in.), ensuring secure fitting within hydraulic systems. The RPESCAN model weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and uses Viton seals for enhanced performance under various conditions.

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
