The Sun Hydraulics RPESCQV (Material Number: RPESCQV) is a pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge valve designed for precise pressure regulation. The valve is normally closed and begins to open to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the preset level, effectively throttling flow to maintain consistent pressure. It features smooth and quiet operation with a fast response time of approximately 7 milliseconds and exhibits low pressure rise versus flow. This makes it suitable for applications requiring stable load holding and cross-port relief circuits. The RPESCQV valve is engineered to be resilient against cavitation-related issues, such as noise and manifold erosion, due to its internal modulating design. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min). The valve's design includes a 150-micron stainless steel screen protecting the main stage orifice, ensuring durability against oil contamination. Additionally, it is relatively insensitive to variations in oil temperature. Featuring Sun's floating style construction, the RPESCQV minimizes potential binding of internal parts due to installation torque or machining variations. The adjustment mechanism allows for fine-tuning throughout its range with an option for special settings that define maximum valve settings. The installation requires specific torques: 30-35 lbf ft for the valve and 80-90 lbf in for the locknut. With a compact design weighing just .30 lb (.15 kg), this cartridge valve offers reliability in maintaining desired hydraulic system pressures while accommodating backpressure at a direct additive ratio of 1:1 at the tank port.

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
