The Sun Hydraulics RPESKCN (Material Number: RPESKCN) is a pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge designed for pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. The valve remains normally closed and begins to open to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set point, thus throttling flow to maintain regulated pressure levels. It offers precision, smooth operation, quiet performance, and rapid response with minimal pressure increase relative to flow. This cartridge is engineered to withstand maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits. It demonstrates resilience against varying oil temperatures and contamination due to its design features. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, enhancing its reliability in load-holding applications. Additionally, backpressure on the tank port is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Users can specify W and Y controls with or without special settings; without special settings, the valve remains adjustable across its range via these controls. The Sun floating style construction reduces potential binding from excessive torque or machining variations. This cartridge fits into a T-10A cavity with a series 1 capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Its typical response time is approximately 7 milliseconds, with minimal leakage of up to 10 drops per minute at 110 SUS (24 cSt). Installation requires specific torques for various components: valve hex size is 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), requiring installation torque between 30-35 lbf\u00b7ft (41-47 Nm). Adjustment involves an internal hex size of 5/32 inch (4 mm), while the locknut hex size is 9/16 inch (15 mm) with torque specifications of 80-90 lbf\u00b7in (9-10 Nm). The model weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for optimal performance.

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
