The Sun Hydraulics RPESLQN (Material Number: RPESLQN) is a pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge designed to serve as a normally closed pressure regulating valve. It operates by opening to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve setting, effectively throttling flow to regulate pressure. This valve is noted for its accuracy, smooth operation, quiet performance, rapid response time of approximately 7 ms, and low-pressure rise versus flow characteristics. The design ensures immunity to cavitation issues such as noise and manifold erosion due to the modulating action occurring within the cartridge itself. It can accommodate maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The RPESLQN valve is relatively unaffected by changes in oil temperature and contamination due to its robust construction. A key feature includes a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. With W and Y controls available, users can specify settings with or without special adjustments; in absence of specific settings, the valve remains adjustable throughout its full range. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce potential binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve features a T-10A cavity with a series 1 capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can sustain maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The maximum leakage rate at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is minimal at just ten drops per minute (0.7 cc/min), ensuring efficient performance in hydraulic systems requiring precise pressure regulation.

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
