The Sun Hydraulics RPGCFJN (RPGCFJN) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This valve remains normally closed and opens to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the set threshold, throttling flow to maintain the desired pressure level. Known for its accuracy and minimal pressure rise relative to flow, it operates smoothly and quietly with a moderately fast response time of approximately 10 milliseconds. The cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not recommended for load holding applications due to potential spool leakage. This relief valve is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits while considering spool leakage. It can withstand maximum pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) at port 2, with back pressure at tank port 2 directly adding to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RPGCFJN accommodates various control settings; W and Y controls are adjustable throughout their range unless specified otherwise. The valve's corrosion-resistant variants are identified by suffixes AP or LH in the model code, indicating external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components. The RPGCFJN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) with a factory pressure setting established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). Installation requires specific torque settings: valve hex size is 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm), installed with torque between 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm). The adjustment screw internal hex size is 5/32 inch (4 mm), and locknut torque should be between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). This model weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for optimal performance in compatible fluid environments.

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
