The Sun Hydraulics RPGCTSV (RPGCTSV) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed as a pressure regulating valve. This normally closed valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the preset level, throttling flow to maintain regulated pressure. It is known for its accuracy, low pressure rise versus flow, smooth operation, quiet performance, and moderate speed. The RPGCTSV is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits with consideration for spool leakage. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen but is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The valve's back pressure on tank port 2 directly affects its setting at a 1:1 ratio. Cartridges with EPDM seals are intended for phosphate ester fluid systems and are not compatible with petroleum-based fluids. The RPGCTSV can be adjusted throughout its range using W or Y controls unless specified with a special setting indicating the maximum limit. Corrosion-resistant options are available with external stainless steel (AP) or zinc-nickel plated components (LH). The floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. This model fits into cavity T-3A and has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It typically responds within 10 ms and has minimal leakage at specified conditions. The valve hex size is 1-1/8 inches, requiring an installation torque of 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw, while securing requires an additional locknut torque of 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). The model weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg), and Viton seal kits are available under part number 990203006.

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
