The Sun Hydraulics RPGECDN (RPGECDN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly to manage pressure spikes, offering quick response times at the expense of smooth operation. When the inlet port 1 reaches the predetermined valve setting, it opens to tank port 2 to throttle flow and limit pressure rise. The RPGECDN features a low-pressure rise versus flow and is physically and functionally interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges within the same frame size. It can accept maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, though spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice of this cartridge is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability under demanding conditions. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Backpressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended as exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals. The RPGECDN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes internal parts binding from excessive installation torque or cavity machining variations. It has a cavity size of T-3A Series 2 with a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Typical response time is around 2 milliseconds with maximum valve leakage rated at 3 in/min (50 cc/min) at specified conditions. Adjustment settings include five clockwise turns for increased settings, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments provided for precise application setup.
