The Sun Hydraulics RPGECEV (RPGECEV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches its setting, directing flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. Known for its quick response with typical times around 2 milliseconds, it features a low pressure rise versus flow characteristic. The valve is suitable for cross-port relief circuits and can handle maximum pressures at port 2; however, users should be aware of spool leakage in such applications. It incorporates a 150-micron stainless steel screen protecting the main stage orifice and is not suitable for load-holding applications due to this leakage. The back pressure on the tank port directly affects the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. This model is compatible with systems using phosphate ester fluids when configured with EPDM seals, but caution is advised against exposure to petroleum-based products which can damage these seals. The RPGECEV employs Sun's floating style construction to reduce risks of internal binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. It fits into T-3A cavities and has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min). With factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), it operates under maximum pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw requiring specific torque settings for optimal performance and security.
