The Sun Hydraulics RPGEJCN (RPGEJCN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly at the expense of smoothness to manage pressure at the inlet port by throttling flow to tank port 2 when the valve setting is reached. It offers low pressure rise versus flow and operates with remarkable speed, though it is not suitable for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. The valve can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross port relief circuits, but care should be taken regarding spool leakage in such configurations. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. This model features Sun's floating style construction, reducing the risk of internal binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. The RPGEJCN cartridge fits the T-3A cavity and belongs to Series 2 with a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). Factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It boasts a typical response time of just 2 ms and exhibits minimal valve leakage at specified conditions. Adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw, allowing five clockwise turns to increase settings. The valve requires installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) and includes a locknut requiring torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing only .50 lb (.25 kg), this model can be equipped with EPDM seals for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based substances will damage these seals.
