The Sun Hydraulics RPGEJJV (RPGEJJV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve is normally closed and functions as a pressure-limiting device by opening to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set limit, thereby throttling flow and limiting pressure rise. The RPGEJJV model is characterized by its low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in operation. This cartridge is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, accepting maximum pressure at port 2; however, users should consider spool leakage in such applications. It is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage issues. The valve's back pressure on the tank port is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, which should be considered during system design. The RPGEJJV model incorporates Sun’s floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It supports systems with phosphate ester fluids when configured with EPDM seals but must avoid exposure to petroleum-based substances which can damage these seals. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve provides robust performance in demanding environments. Installation requires specific torque settings: 45–50 lbf ft (61–68 Nm) for the valve and 80–90 lbf in (9–10 Nm) for the locknut. The adjustment screw uses an internal hex size of 5/32 in., while the locknut has a hex size of 9/16 in., ensuring precise control during setup.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

• All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
• Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
• Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
• Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
• Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
• Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
