The Sun Hydraulics RPGEKGV (RPGEKGV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly to manage pressure spikes, sacrificing smoothness for speed. When the inlet port 1 reaches the preset pressure, the valve begins to open to tank port 2, throttling flow effectively to control the pressure rise. The RPGEKGV features a low-pressure rise versus flow and is noted for its quick response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and is equipped with a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. This relief cartridge is versatile and interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges within the same frame size, offering identical flow paths and cavities. It can tolerate maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should account for spool leakage in such applications. The cartridge is not recommended for load-holding applications due to this leakage characteristic. Additionally, backpressure on tank port 2 directly influences the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RPGEKGV incorporates Sun\u2019s floating style construction, which minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge configurations. It accepts EPDM seals for systems using phosphate ester fluids but should avoid petroleum-based substances that could damage these seals.
