The Sun Hydraulics RPGELWV (RPGELWV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves are known for their quick opening and closing capabilities, which are achieved at the expense of smoothness. When the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve setting, it begins to open to tank port 2, throttling flow to limit further pressure rise. The RPGELWV offers low pressure rise versus flow and operates with remarkable speed. This model is physically and functionally interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges (excluding pilot reliefs), sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The RPGELWV can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. It is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Cartridges with EPDM seals are intended for systems using phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. Featuring Sun's floating style construction, this cartridge minimizes internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge configurations. The RPGELWV has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). With a typical response time of just 2 ms and minimal leakage at specified conditions, this valve provides reliable performance in demanding applications. Installation requires specific torques for optimal performance, and adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw with five clockwise turns available to increase settings.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
