The Sun Hydraulics RPGEMEN (RPGEMEN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve features rapid opening and closing capabilities, although this comes at the cost of smoothness. When the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve's set threshold, it begins to open towards tank port 2, throttling flow to limit any further pressure increase. The cartridge is noted for its low pressure rise versus flow and quick response time, typically around 2 milliseconds. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min). The RPGEMEN is compatible with cross-port relief circuits but requires consideration of spool leakage if used in such applications. Its main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and it incorporates Sun\u2019s floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. However, this valve is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Additionally, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are intended for systems using phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The design allows for interchangeable use among all two-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs within the same series frame size. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For installation and adjustment, it requires specific torques and hex sizes as outlined in its specifications.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
