The Sun Hydraulics RPGEMEV (RPGEMEV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the set pressure, effectively throttling flow to manage pressure rise. It boasts low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time, typically around 2 milliseconds. The valve is not suitable for load holding applications due to spool leakage but is ideal for cross-port relief circuits with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, and it features Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal part binding. These cartridges are interchangeable across all 2-port relief configurations of the same frame size and can handle maximum pressure at port 2. EPDM seals are used for compatibility with phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based substances will harm these seals. The valve has specific adjustment features: five clockwise turns increase the setting, with an installation torque range of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). The hex sizes for adjustment screw and locknut are 5/32 in. (4 mm) and 9/16 in. (15 mm), respectively, with locknut torque between 80-90 lbf in. (9-10 Nm). Weighing approximately .50 lb (.25 kg), this cartridge fits into cavity T-3A and operates at a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min).
