The Sun Hydraulics RPGEMGN (Material Number: RPGEMGN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed valve limits pressure rise by opening to the tank port when inlet pressure reaches the valve setting. It features rapid opening and closing, though this comes at the expense of smoothness. The valve is characterized by a low pressure rise versus flow and can handle maximum pressures at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits. However, it is not ideal for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. This cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding from installation torque or machining variations. It supports maximum operating pressure up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. The valve can handle a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) with minimal leakage, specified at 3 cubic inches per minute at 1000 psi (50 cc/min at 70 bar). It is adjustable via an internal hex screw with five clockwise turns required to increase settings, and includes Viton seals suitable for various fluid types except phosphate ester fluids. The RPGEMGN model has a compact design with a weight of just half a pound (0.25 kg), making it easy to integrate into existing hydraulic systems where space might be limited. Its versatility in application is further enhanced by its compatibility with Sun's Series 2 cavities and interchangeability across similar flow paths and frame sizes within that series.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
