The Sun Hydraulics RPGEMSV (RPGEMSV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly, sacrificing smoothness for speed. When the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, it begins to open to the tank port, throttling flow to limit pressure rise. Known for its low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds, this valve is highly efficient in managing sudden pressure changes. The RPGEMSV can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi and a capacity of 50 gpm. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. This cartridge is compatible with cross-port relief circuits but requires consideration of spool leakage in such applications. The backpressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. Cartridges with EPDM seals are intended for systems using phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based substances could damage these seals.
