The Sun Hydraulics RPGEODV (RPGEODV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port 1 reaches its set pressure, directing flow to tank port 2 to limit further pressure increase. With a low pressure rise versus flow characteristic, these valves are exceptionally quick in response. They are interchangeable with all other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, sharing the same flow path and cavity dimensions. The RPGEODV accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should consider potential spool leakage in such applications. The main stage orifice is shielded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen for added protection. Due to spool leakage, this valve is not appropriate for load-holding applications. Any back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Cartridges with EPDM seals are compatible with phosphate ester fluids but can be damaged by petroleum-based substances. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge. The RPGEODV features a T-3A cavity and Series 2 capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min), with factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). It operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a typical response time of just 2 milliseconds.
