The Sun Hydraulics RPGEOGN (RPGEOGN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve is normally closed and functions as a pressure-limiting device that opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set point, effectively throttling flow to control pressure rise. Known for its rapid response and low pressure rise versus flow characteristics, this valve is suitable for use in cross-port relief circuits but should be used with caution due to spool leakage, making it unsuitable for load holding applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. The valve can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) with a typical response time of 2 milliseconds. The RPGEOGN model features interchangeable design across all two-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity size within its frame category. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. For systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids, configurations with EPDM seals are available; however, these seals are not compatible with petroleum-based fluids. The valve's back pressure at tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), this cartridge is compact yet robust, weighing just 0.50 lbs (0.25 kg). It requires specific installation torques for optimal performance: valve hex size of 1 1/8 in. (28.6 mm) with an installation torque range of 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm), adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in. (4 mm), and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm).

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
