The Sun Hydraulics RPGEOJN (RPGEOJN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly upon reaching the preset pressure at inlet port 1, diverting flow to tank port 2 to control pressure rise. It features low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response times, making it ideal for applications requiring quick pressure relief. The valve is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path, and can handle maximum pressure at port 2, suitable for cross-port relief circuits. However, spool leakage should be considered in such circuits. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in various environments. The valve is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, EPDM seal configurations are available; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals. The RPGEOJN incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. It has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) with maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The typical response time is approximately 2 ms with minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. Installation requires specific torque settings for optimal performance: valve hex size is 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm), with installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). The adjustment screw uses an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), while the locknut hex size is 9/16 inches (15 mm) with a torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm).
