The Sun Hydraulics RPGEOWV (Material Number: RPGEOWV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens swiftly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, directing flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. Notable for its low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds, this valve is ideal for applications requiring quick pressure regulation. It has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). The RPGEOWV is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and cavity, making it versatile in various configurations. The valve is suitable for cross-port relief circuits but should be used cautiously due to potential spool leakage. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding risks. However, it is not recommended for load-holding applications because of spool leakage concerns. The back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges can be configured with EPDM seals; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. Installation requires specific torque settings: 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) for the valve and 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm) for the locknut.
