The Sun Hydraulics RPGEQEN (RPGEQEN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly at the expense of smoothness, making it highly effective for applications requiring rapid response. When the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve's set point, it opens to tank port 2, throttling flow to limit further pressure increases. The RPGEQEN offers low pressure rise versus flow and is noted for its swift operation with a typical response time of just 2 milliseconds. This cartridge valve is interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path, excluding pilot reliefs. It can accept maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is shielded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen for added protection. It's important to note that this valve is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The RPGEQEN features Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge configurations. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a ratio of 1:1. This model can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw with five clockwise turns increasing the setting. The cartridge comes with Viton seals suitable for various fluid types but requires EPDM seals when used with phosphate ester fluids due to compatibility concerns with petroleum-based substances.
