The Sun Hydraulics RPGEQSV (RPGEQSV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed valve opens quickly when the inlet port reaches the set pressure, allowing flow to tank port 2 and limiting pressure rise. Known for its rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds and low pressure rise versus flow, it is highly effective in applications requiring quick pressure relief. The valve features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, although spool leakage should be considered. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min), it can handle significant hydraulic loads. The RPGEQSV cartridge is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, thanks to its consistent flow path and cavity design. However, it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, models with EPDM seals are available; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals.
