The Sun Hydraulics RPGETAN (Material Number: RPGETAN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly when the inlet port pressure reaches the set point, diverting flow to the tank port to control pressure rise. It features a low-pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. The cartridge is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path, allowing for versatile application in hydraulic systems. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, although spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, but it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage. The RPGETAN can accommodate back pressure on the tank port directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and features EPDM seals compatible with phosphate ester fluids. However, exposure to petroleum-based fluids could damage these seals. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve offers robust performance in demanding environments. It requires an installation torque of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) and features an adjustment screw with an internal hex size of 5/32 inch (4 mm). The locknut hex size is 9/16 inch (15 mm), with a locknut torque requirement of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm).
