The Sun Hydraulics RPGETBN (RPGETBN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve is normally closed and operates by opening to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the valve setting, thereby throttling flow to limit pressure rise. It features low pressure rise versus flow and offers rapid response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. The RPGETBN is suitable for use in cross-port relief circuits, although users should consider spool leakage in such applications. It is not recommended for load-holding applications due to this leakage. The valve's main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability under high-pressure conditions up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The cartridge design incorporates Sun Hydraulics' floating style construction to minimize internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. Backpressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), this Series 2 cartridge fits into a T-3A cavity and requires an installation torque of 45\u201350 lbf ft (61\u201368 Nm). The adjustment screw features an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), and adjustments can be made with up to five clockwise turns to increase the setting. Additionally, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are intended for systems using phosphate ester fluids only. Exposure to petroleum-based substances will damage these seals.
